Trailer?

Hi all,
I have a Mk0 and have looked for this question with no real answer from the forum/discussions on this site so what i'm wondering is this.
The specs for the mark 0 are displacement of 2.54 ton, giving this should be the weight with no gear on board? has anyone had a trailer built or looked into this as an option?
Would love to know your thoughts, and if anyone has exact weights of a mark 0

Gday Boomjack.
Yes it is an option. Bear McNally transported his Mk1 from Middle Harbor to Swansea instead of sailing it up the coast. There are photos of it in the gallery.
If you're looking at making it a trailer boat i don't think that's practical.
I'll give him a nudge to come up.

There has been a trailer made for a Top Hat before.

Hi Dolphin & Phillip, thank you the info l will have a look in the Gallery for the photos.
Yes not looking to make it into a trailer sailer just being able to haul out when l need to work on it and it will be out of the water for a while till I can have all the rigging, mast and other jobs done.
Has anyone got the weight of a mark 0.

Hi BoomJack, I looked into getting a yard trailer when I had Windchaser as it seemed an excellent way of making her accessible for doing work. Seen yard trailers for boats like the Roberts 25 and similar so it is very do-able. However when I approached some welding and trailer shops about making one, they were not interested. I didn't have the skills to do it and there was a mining boom on at the time which meant they were extra busy with high profit jobs. I could have persevered but just ended up paying for more time on the club slip to get some repairs done. However, the concept of a yard trailer for a Top Hat is a good one, in my opinion.

I think if you can talk to someone who has made yard trailers for any sort of keel boat then they would be able to give you insight into making one to fit a Top Hat.

Hi Troppo,

Our club is only small so no slip available so this will be road going trailer. Have had a look at many trailers for similar yachts and can see that it is possible just need to get as much info as I can before I start building so thankyou, ill let you know how I go. If it is a success ill let the group know.
Would still love to know an exact weight.

I haven't yet found the photo of a recent trailer that was built in Brisbane, but these will do in the meantime.

Oh, and yes the first Mk 0 displacement was 2.54 tons, ballast of 1.15 tons [not tonnes]
The actual displacement will depend on what the hull was built of.

Thanks Phillip, what a range of trailers.
How far did Seka travel on the trailer and did it have any other supports?

It travelled from Pittwater in Sydney to Laurieton on the Mid North Coast of NSW.
The truck towing it had a 3 ton hi-ab crane that could just lift her to put her in the correct position.
I would reckon on 3.5 tons [max] of weight to cover gear onboard.
I motored Seaka onto the trailer in the water.
On launching I had an outboard boat to pull her off as I did not just have enough tide and the ramp was a bit short underwater.
He lowered and raise the mast with the crane.
Those are all the supports used.
