engine access hatch

Just Re the water in cockpit at 5 knots plus Shea.

All the Marks have different cabin floor levels [in relation to bottom of keel].

I hadn't thought about the cockpit floor before Shaun's remark. Something I will have to investigate.

As to the Mk 1 and 5 knots plus Shea, I always wear sea boots [unless its warm water] to combat the problem.
If Shaun is right there must also have been a small design change in the Mk 2 & 3,
but I suspect it may be because of the weight of our inboards being so far aft.
It may also explain that some re-engines have been moved forward to try and address this problem.
In addition I removed 70kg of lead stored in the bow of Seaka when I brought her, was it an effort to raise the stern?

All food for thought :D :D

Hi Phillip, when you removed those 70 kg of lead ingots from the bow of your boat, I hope you scratched on the grey metal to see if it hid a yellow metal underneath. There is that gold bullion that went missing down your way donkeys years ago and it wouldn't be the first time stuff like that lay around with camouflage on.

Gday Shea,
Hopefully here is a link to the photo in the gallery showing the access hatch in the cockpit sole. It was installed by the previous owner when he got the wheel steering installed. Diesel mechanics like working on it as it gives great access to the stern gland etc.
A removeable bulkhead next to the quarterberth seems like a better option, and a more common one.
Hope it helps.
Greg.

For what it's worth that's basically the same as Galini's, though possibly a little longer towards the aft end.

No such luck Louis, but I did turn them into about 2 m of mother-in-law chain [you know the size - 2" dia. links 10" long] for my mooring block.

Still have a couple of ingots, will have to go out and check em!
