Hi all,
I bought a Mk III around 2 months which requires an extensive interior refurb, which i guess is about 75% complete now.
From what ive been told and seen of other mk3's, she has a custom interior, the galley being just inside the cabin door and the head not fully enclosed (yet).
A couple of questions and apologies if im repeating any old posts here;
For drinking water, ive been looking at using a flexible 50L tank. It would seem the original design used the aft end of the bilge for a water tank instead, however i dont fancy following suit. Has anyone encountered any problems using a flexi-tank? What other options are out there?
I need to replace the teak panels on the central bulkheads, ive looked in bunnings and etc but cant seem to find what im after, is this something i need to get from a particular supplier? Can anyone recommend a place in Sydney?
The bilge pump (manual at the moment) empties directly outside the cabin door through the cockpit floor, is this standard on Mk3's?
I'll post some before and after pics shortly
thanks
dan

Hi Dan,
When I was in Sydney I used to get timber from Caporns in Brookvale (although from recollection it was pricey). The other place you could try, if you are near Pittwater is Gonsalves Slip, in Palm Beach, there used to be heaps of old timber sitting around the slipway.

Dan,
Tales (Mk3) has a water tank under the cabin floor which is visible in the drawing on this website (pictures).
I believe that someone let the floor down 50mm or so to get more headroom on Tales and did not seal the plywood top on the edges. I cleaned out the tank when I bought the boat but it fouled soon afterward so I bought a flexi tank from Whitworths and fitted it. It was not a good fit and even with the edges rolled up, held a fair bit of air.
I had the tank cut down and sealed and it fits a lot better but I still have dificulty ridding it of air. Instead of an inlet and outlet perhaps it would be better having only one orifice and filling through a 'T' fitting after evacuating the air.
The company who cut down the tank will make custom flexi tanks and I will post their name if you are interested (don't have it handy at the moment).
Cheers,
Tom

Hi Dan,
I have previously looked at ordering teak form Thailand - not sure if this would work for you but might be worth a shot!

Also, my Mk 1 also has a bilge pump outlet right outside the cabin door too - so seems fairly standard.
hoep that helps!
Cheers

Hi Dan,
I have a Mk11 with water storage tank under the floor. It has two stainless steel inspection plates that were not sealed properly when I bought the boat and the consequently the tank was badly fouled. After a good clean out I fitted a flexible 100L bladder (Plastimo from Bias) that I now fill from a tube with a screw cap that is under the inspection board for the bilge (about 2" above the floor level). I put the bladder in about 4 months ago and replaced the ancient electric pump with a simple sink pump while I was at it. The noew tank seems to work fine (though it prabably only holds about 60-70L because it is not a great fit).
As to the bilge pump, Storm Petrel has both an electric and manual pump. The electric pump is directed via one way valve on a through-hull fitting at about cockpit seat height on the port side. The manual pump is under the cockpit seat. I fitted a long hose to it that I can pull out of the seat locker and direct over the gunnel it required.
Cheers,
Mark

Thanks everyone for your input, looks like i'll go with the plastic flexi tank and just fit it where possible and check out a few places on the teak.
Many thanks
