Sea Monkey moves to Batemans Bay

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to sail from Sydney to Batemans Bay when Rod moved Sea Monkey to her new home. Also on board was Brian, a long time mate of Rods.

We left Woolwich on a sunny Monday morning and made our way through the Harbour with the benefit of a 10-15 knot breeze from the North East. Rod was happy finding out about his new boat, and Sea Monkey was obviously pleased to be on the water. The sail south was really great, despite a couple of quiet patches when the wind eased.

With three on board arranging watches was easy. There was no moon so Sea Monkey made her way through a dark night, her wake luminous and the occassional accompanying Dolphins appearing as dim green shapes. The glow of Sydney, Woolongong/Port Kembla and Nowra confirmed location info from charts and electronics.

Tuesday came and went almost too rapidly. We berthed in Batemans Bay just on 6pm, making it a 32hr trip - pretty good considering the light winds. Sea Monkey showed Rod he'd made a good choice with his new Top Hat.

We navigated with GPS & Charts, however the Navionics app for phones & tablets provided surprisingly good & accurate information - I later found that Garmin uses Navionics software. The attached photos are of Rod & Sea Monkey.

Good to hear Rod that you had a good safe trip, a calm trip is always better than a ruff one.
Im very supprised about your trip time I would of thought it would have taken longer.
Hope to make it down to Batmans bay one day, looks like a wonderful place.

What was your average speed RodM? I thought it was about 130 nm to Batemans Bay from Sydney. That gives about 4 knots average, which is bloody good if you had some lulls. Sounds like a fun trip.

Hi,
We caught the tail end of a high coming across and shot out of Sydney Heads doing 7kts (SOG)
During the night we had a real good run for quite a few hours doing 5-6 kts, during the lulls we motored as well. Boat had just been anti-fouled which probably helped too.
