I've been playing around with opencpn with a USB GPS receiver connected. It looks promising. I'm running it on a MacBook, which is power hungry. It's looking like a good candidate is a raspberry pie: https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/ra ... 3-model-b/

At the very least, Opencpn is a good way to get chart data for when you get close to a supervised bubble jet, or laser jet printer.
