high speed sailing

I crewed on a trick Adams 10 for a race around the cans this afternoon. Was one of the last off (handicap) and sailed through the entire fleet including some modern 36+ ft yachts to take the checkered flag. I could not believe how fast the Adams sailed in10-12 knots of breeze. We passed Cav 32s and Bavaria's like they were standing still. For a 30 yr old yacht the Adams is an amazing boat, mind you the Kevlar sails and new rig may have helped. I have been asked to crew for an ocean race on the boat in April and I am tempted just to see if they are good in a seaway as they are in the bay.

Oh well back my comfortable Top Hat and it's stately, safe progress.

Cheers,

Mark

Well done Mark, they couldn't have done it without you. : )

Perhaps it's about time we develop foils for our Top Hats.

Yes, if providing ballast counts as helping in a race.....Then I did have something to do with the win.

Bill, I looked at a well set up cruising version of the Adams 10 last Christmas and could have picked it up for about 20k. The owner had set her up very well and sailed her to Lord Howe with his wife and another couple in their 60's. When he got back he bought an Adams 13.7m and put his old 10m up for sale. After my sail this week I think I might have made a mistake letting this boat go. The problem is that I am too attached to my little Top Hat.
