quick survey - antifouling costs

Postby Sean Spence » Tue Mar 06, 2012 6:40 pm

I'm reeling from a bill for antifouling that seems steep. Quote was $1300 (verbal) but now comes in at much more plus $700 for the antifoul itself. Way more than the first time I got the boat done.

How does this relate to experiences in Melbourne and elsewhere? A friend just got his Noelex 25 done for $1300 all up so I'm wondering about comparatives!

Feeling 'blooded' as well as 'bloodied' by the experience of seeing this bill!

Thanks, all!

Sean,

They are having a lend of you.

Ask to see the four [at least] empty tins of antifouling they put on your Top Hat.

Have they given you the correct BILL!

Your $1300 quote was about right....

This is a quote I got from the marina in Port Macquarie [NSW] to compare our cost at Laurieton where we can do our own work.

Description of works
SET UP AND SLIP VESSEL, PRESURE WASH AND PREP FOR ANTIFOUL. SPOT PRIME
WHERE REQUIRED AND APPLY TWO COATS OF ANTIFOUL. RETURN VESSEL TO THE WATER
SET UP--------------------------------$66.00
SLIP& RETURN----------------------$234.08
ADDITIONAL DAY 1 DAY------------$110.00
PRESSURE WASH---------------------$99.00
PRIMER 1 Lt---------------------------$38.50
ANTIFOUL 4Lt-----------------------$242.00
CONSUMABLES------------------------$33.00
Labour 8hours @ $65.00------------$572.00
Total GST included $126.78
-----------------------Invoice Total $1,394.58
Payment is due on completion of Work

Hope this helps. Phillip.

My last two have been around the $1300 mark. This year they offered me a discount if I booked it in before Feb 29. She's going up on March 26th.

You are within your rights to question a bill that goes over what they quoted you, even of it was verbal. Although, if they had to do any extra work that was imperative, there may have been no choice, but inder no circumstances should you just suck it up.

Care to mention the company?

Thanks, all,

I'm having a 'chat' later today with the boatyard & will see where I get. Silly bugger doesn't realise he's ruining his business & his future income stream over his grabbing for cash and a generally slippery manner of 'explaining' things.

Will post the outcome! All part of the learning curve!

I pay around $700 to have it done on the Central Coast. I figure for this price it is not worth dong it myself.

big lesson learnt. Got $1000 off the total cost but it's still too much. $1500 plus slippage at RBYC using Robstan - which won't happen again. Robstan seem to think all the members are fair game.

Next antifoul will be by me at another location - & a good way to really know the bottom of my own boat!

Thanks for all the fantastic feedback!
