Hi all,

Anyone got a Nanni diesel in their boat? If so how have you found it? They look pretty good(nice blue) and the price seems competitive. Any feedback appreciated.

I have a 10hp Nanni which is now almost 20 years old. It runs well.


Maintenance is hell as the parts are VERY expensive. I have to replace the alternator bracket, its about 200 x 15 out of 5mm steel [read that as gold]. I say that as a replacement is $120.



Otherwise it runs like a charm, has never let me down and I would get another IF I had to replace it.

I had a 10 HP BloodyMindedWerken once and eventually pulled it out for all the usual reasons, especially the price of spares. I replaced it with a raw water cooled Yanmar G10 which slotted into the same space with minor changes to the engine beds. An expensive exercise all the same. The boat was not a Top Hat, but matching the prop diameter to shaft horsepower/displacement is one of the keys to best performance.

I have a 10HP Nanni, not quite sure exactly how old - 610 hours on the clock.

I didn't use it enough & the right-angle elbow in the exhaust managed to clog to an aperture of only 2mm before I got it reamed out. 'Use big revs' was the advice.

Just had a big issue with the prop and was told that I had had the wrong pitch on the prop, which greatly impacts the efficiency. That and an antifoul & she goes like a dream.

The exhaust elbow design is a stupid issue - gunk doesn't automatically do right angles. I was quoted $3000 to rearrange the exhaust system including a part to replace the unavailable part. So I'll wait until she gunks up again and ream it out again.

How is yours set up in the engine bay? It's a bit big, given the original design only envisaged a 3hp engine. So there's a bit of an issue getting at the oil dipstick & no idea how to access the gearbox dipstick. Also comes forward into the cabin so access is a bit awkward.

The power's good and necessary here in Port Phillip from time to time, so I don't mind the overengineering...
