Shaft Seals

Shaft Seals

Postby Deepsouth42 » Mon Dec 05, 2011 12:06 pm

So I got the engine back on its mounts and lined up.

The Strong Seal at the front of the tube grabbed the saft-spun around winding up all of the hoses and making a very frightening sound.
You can see the type of seal here;

The seal then released from the shaft and spins easily.

But it also can slide forwards easily the two hoseclamps seem to have lost their grip.
But thankfully there is only a very slight seep of water into the boat from the trusty rear seal.

Anyway I posted on youtube a clip of how it looks now and am proposing to carefully clean it all up with metho and then some solvent. Makes for a good buzz using these products in the confined bilge space (and yes I will turn the batteries off and extinguish my Havanna Cigar)

Remove the existing hoseclamps and replace with new ones-but leave loosened.

Then I will use Sikaflex to re-bed the seal and leave for a day or two before tightening up the hoseclamps; replace the hoses and hope for the best.

Any opinions?
