Running gear and sheaves

Running gear and sheaves

Postby Killick69 » Thu Aug 11, 2011 6:55 am

The plan is to do a complete mast refurbish when I get the mast home. I am assuming the sheaves will need replacing. The halyards are rope (white with black flecks, guess 8-10mm). Any advice on best type of sheaves (stainless/bronze/plastic?) and size sheaves would be great. Past owners of Night Cap any idea how old the present halyards are? I assume cable is not the best. Is spectra the way to go?

John,
I'd guess existing halyards are about 3 or 4 years old(from memory replaced not long before I bought her), I dont know what they are ...but they dont look like the standard double braid polyester, could even be spectra or similar
