Mast step (harbour bridge)

The plan is to remove the mast soon and have new rigging made up. I will need to remove and work on the dreaded mast step. Anyone who has been thru this exercise, please add notes on what you found and how you did the refurb. It is a mark 3 (Night Cap). I can only see 2X6 screws securing the harbour bridge (Diana, any info you can provide the the screws/bolts that were/are in the cabin on your boat?). Any info on how others have cleaned the mast step will be welcomed. I will make enquiries about having it sandblasted, which is probably the best way to go. Some form of sealing will no doubt be needed between the mast step and the cabin top (Sikaflex?).
