Hi everyone, looking for suggestions re best anti-foul to use (Parsley Bay, Brooklyn, NSW) and boat is used a lot. Look forward to hearing your thoughts on best type (hard vs soft/ablative) and best brand/product. Also keen to hear which is easier to apply and remove (thinking about next time I need to do AF). This will be a DIY job. Thanx, look forward to comments. John

You've opened a can of worms there John!

I use Altex No 5 ablating antifoul. I have for years through all the different names ABC 3, Altex devoe etc. The best part is that with a jet wash it all comes off, leaving no build up over several seasons. The more you put on the better it works and longer it lasts. I put on at least 2 coats. It has always lasted at least 12 months, except for when a "Professional" did it. The last one lasted 18 months. You can rub it to bring up a new surface and reactivate it. It only had some shell on the waterline and slime on the keel.

Interestingly, the boat builder here in Lake Mac recommended International Ultra. It can be rubbed back but is classed as a hard antifoul, the best of both worlds.
Altex N0 5 is $199 / 4 litres (boatyard), Ultra is $239 (bias)

Just have to see what suits you best.

What did you use and what have you heard?

Greg.

Hi Greg,
I am new to this, so this will be first time I do A-Fouling job. I will be doing the work myself, so want to make sure I am prepared for the big day/week. Been reading about Copper Coat (not the International stuff, but expensive imported stuff) and apparently it lasts a long time. Keen to know if anyone has used it.
