water leaks and general maintenance

Had a great day doing various jobs on the boat yesterday. Was a perfect day for it. Bilge pump is now properly installed, using the old inboard exhast line pumping out the stern. Fitted hinge to replace the broken forward hinge on cockpit locker. Put Neoprene seal strip on cockpit locker lid and repositioned closing clasp. Definitely less water getting in, hopefully rain won't get in. The mast step is finally derusted, primed and painted. Does anyone know if water can get in under mast step and if so, where will it run to/exit. I am thinking of sealing around the outside of the mast step.......what does everyone else do? Night Cap has 2 mushroom vents (one over sink and one in the head). I have sealed the gaps that existed around the outside of the vents on the coachhouse roof. Looking at the underside of the vents (looking from inside boat), there are 3 layers to the coachhouse roof (outer skins of GRP and and inner layer of something that looks like ply. Is this ply and is there any chance of water entering somewhere and running between the ply and GRP and then falling through the mushroom vent into the cabin?

Gday John
sounds like your getting heaps done. Like I said to you before, those mushroom vents aren't very good imo, im surprised they've hung in this long, there's a good thread here  viewtopic.php?f=6&t=197
The idea of replacing the vent above the sink with a small hatch is fantastic.
