Cut down 2nd hand sails

Cut down 2nd hand sails

Postby Bruce » Sat Jul 10, 2010 6:46 pm

Hi everyone.

I have another query I am hoping someone might be able to help me with. I need new sails and I am considering buying good quality second hand ones. In the absence of suitable second hand Top Hat sails being available, one option available is to have larger sails cut down to size.

I couldn't see any other posts on this site about the subject, so does anyone have any experience with this, or any views about whether this is a good way to go, or what the pitfalls might be?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers,

Bruce

Bruce,

You might look at the J24 class for sails as they are very close to Top Hat's in size :D

You should try and track down a serious racer in the J24's as they will replace sails,
in some cases, every YEAR :o

You may not get a Genoa, but you should be able to get a jib and main.
If you do find a source in the J24's, I am sure a lot of our members will be interested!
