Replacing Staunchions

Replacing Staunchions

Postby karl010203 » Fri Sep 25, 2009 3:54 pm

Hey All

I am looking to replace the staunchions in a couple of weeks...

I really like the Ronstan ones sold by Whitworths...

http://www.whitworths.com.au/main_itemd ... lutePage=1

They are really nice, 316 ss etc... but the prices are horrific... at $134 plus $35'ish for the base.

Has anyone else gone through this exercise recently a little bit cheaper...

Although would look real smart - not sure I can afford to do all of them in one go.

Anyone ideas appreciated.

Current ones are aluminium and over time have become very sloppy in their bases.

I am wondering if I replace the bases with stainless and actually invert the current ones if I could get away with it... but really like the look of the stainless ones...

Im not a metals expert but i thought it was a no no to mix stainless and alloy from a reactive point of view

you could try the second hand chandlery places, but in my experience they are not a whole lot cheaper!

Thanks Shaun - the ronstan ones are solid but to be honest these will do the trick just fine - and with the spare change might be able to do a couple of other deck fittings as well... yeeehaa and thanks
