Hi all, I have a drainage problem.. it comes with a sob story

i had the yard antifoul my mk1 a while back during a covid lockdown and so just got some photos of the work they did.. which included some bogging before they slapped the paint on..

long story short is they bogged up the drain hole in the bottom! Which I didn't realise until I could not work out why i couldn't unclog my cockpit drains.. also why i couldn't locate the bloody things when i dived under the boat last weekend..

anyway.. looking at the photos closely i can see they've bogged up the bloody drain outlet..

my cockpit is a dirty mixture of seagull sewerage and standing water..

any big ideas on what i can do? i'll dive on it and try to dig it out with a chisel but it will never work.. plus i won't know where the hell it is under the antifoul paint

photos below.. i really can't be bothered lifting it out just to drill out the bog.. which is what i'll probably have to do.. the yard may or may not be interested in doing it for free.. who knows.. it was their fault.. very annoying!!

Good to see you posting again.  Where have been?

I am not familiar with the cockpit drains for a Mark 1 but I assume it is either a continuous straight fibreglass tube between cockpit floor and hull or a flexible hose with a seacock at the hull.  I know the Compass 28s from that era have the former arrangement so maybe Mark 1s are the same.  If so, can you not just drill out the bog from above using an extended drill bit? 

If the drains have a flexible hose with a seacock, is there enough room to remove the hose from the seacock and drill through the seacock?

I think drilling is the way to go.. but you can see on the image that the tubes converge onto a single exit point and yes they are solid fibreglass tubes..

Steve suggestion is what I would exploring.

The cockpit drains on a Mark 1 are two crossing fibreglassed in tubes [no seacocks etc] and exit on the centre line of the hull just below the waterline.

But, I notice you have a non standard fin above your rudder!

Normally those drains would exit the hull about where that fin ends. Was that where your drains were?

So, the questions.
Did you ask for the drains to be filled in?
Did you ask for any other fibreglass repairs?

You see if you say no to the first and you clearly directed what you wanted for the second question
I would be asking them to lift you out, remove the blockage, do any necessary repairs and touch up the anti-fouling .....

ALL AT THEIR COST!!

All good, the yard are going to cover the lift out etc.

And I might take the opportunity to have a crack at replacing my windows.. anyone know how much material I'll need?

I'm thinking 6mm acrylic for the windows.. any other recommendations?

Windows are one a day job, so not to be done on a slip.

We use poly now as it lasts longer than perspex.

I used 6mm polycarbonate for my new windows on a Compass 28.
Next time i'd go 4.5mm, 6mm doesnt flex as easily to the contours of the cabin.
Theres an article in the Afloat magazine that you can find online, I just followed that guide, using the 3M double sided tape and Fixtech sealant, its relatively simple, the hardest part was removing the old silicone from around the windows holes on the cabin.
