Afternoon All,

With my inboard diesel I have a combined accelerator and gear lever.
The gear lever part is activated by pushing in a button below the lever.

My problem is that when I recently removed the engine and replaced it I
seemed to have reassembled the gear cables incorrectly so that the engine
rev's are climbing before the gear box engages Not very good.

Has anybody experience with this type of gear? The only good part is that
I did not touch the lever assembly so that the adjustment has to be
at the gear box or engine accelerator.

Phillip, I have a similar remote control on my Sole diesel. There are 2 Morse cables - one for the throttle and one for gear selection (Forward, Neutral, Reverse). It sounds like your gear selection needs adjustment. On my engine there is a manual gear lever on the gear box - I set that to neutral and then adjust the Morse cable to agree with that setting (i.e. remote control lever is vertical).
I hope that makes sense, I'm describing from memory.

Yes that's what I have also.

Could you have a look at the lever on your gear box please,
because that's where I think I have reassembled it incorrectly .
I think I had 2-3 adjustments at the gear box lever and any clues before I start playing around will help heaps.

Phillip, the way the weather is it could be a while before I visit my boat to look at the gear lever.

However, I can tell you that I have never changed the settings of the lever on the gear box, so I am no help there.

What I have done is disconnect the Morse cable where it joins the slot in the gear lever. With the remote set to neutral (so only idle revs) I run the engine and watch the prop shaft as I slowly move the gear lever forward. While the prop shaft is immobile I know that I am in neutral. As soon as the prop shaft starts to turn I back off just a little so that I am in neutral again and tighten up the Morse connection. That way I know that as soon as I nudge the remote forward I will be going into gear as well as increasing revs.

Evening Gary and All,

Finally tackled this problem today.

I found that the idle adjustment on my Nanni diesel was set to high and
the accelerator cable short, so that I could not idle the engine.

Once I backed off the idle and adjusted the lenght of the accelerator cable,
I checked that the gear box went into gear before the accelerator cable took up to
increase the engine reves.

It worked so now the engine idles until it is in gear and then I can put on the reves!
