Transom: Sand or paint?

Hi,
Currently doing a little transom reno, replacing rego numbers & boat name stickers etc.
Because the old boat name sticker was on for years after I removed it, it left a faint shadow still, that I've tried heaps of chemicals to remove without much success. Sanding it is giving a slightly better result.
Has anyone painted their transom & had a good, long lasting result? (I was thinking about using the Norglass 2 part white undercoat, then the 2 part gloss top coat if needed)), or should I just keep on sanding, then put on the new stickers & polish?
cheers

My wife has been using the Norglass 2 part + primers & undercoat on her Hobe 16.
Lots of sanding involved but I was so impressed I am thinking of using the same stuff on my Toppy.
Pricey but that could be an indication of its longevity.
If I can talk my wife into doing it.........sweet!

Just did Seaka's stern Shaun, went the acid way followed up by a light sand then a polish with silicone free polish before putting numbers on.

Worked well :D :D
