Hello, My first post on this great new website.

I am looking to buy some new new sails on my Mk3. Could anybody tell me how much I should expect to pay for a fully battened main and a No 1 Genoa with self furling attachment and UV protector? Also, any recommended sail makers for Top Hat sails?

Many thanks, Richard M

I got a new main a couple of months ago for my mark III, leech battened (x 4) with 2 reef points for about $900. I got a quote for furling headsail with UV strip which from memory was about $1,600, and about the same again for the furling unit.

I got mine through Sail Solutions at Woolwich, Sydney, theirs are cut in thailand through rolly

Hi Dan (and anyone else),

I am looking into getting a new main made up for my Mk1 and have been thinking about size etc. I have a little more to think about as she (Masquerade) is currently setup as a yawl, and Ive decided to purchase a full sized main instead of replacing the existing setup, thus need to decide on a boom/foot length. Do you have the approximate measurements of your sail? Specifically the luff and foot lengths? Also, during my research I am unclear as to whether the different mks have different sized masts? I think they do. Would be good to get some more info from those in the know.

Cheers,
Derek

Im pretty sure there is a difference between the various marks with regard to mast height,

The rigger/sailmaker and i discovered when we rerigged my mk 3 that my mast is actually 1m higher than any other mk 3 he'd worked on in the past so my sail dimensions will be somewhat different to the norm.

From memory my boom is pretty much right on 3m in length, will take some measurements when im next out

Morning All,

There is a difference between all marks as well as factory fitted and home fitted Top hats.

All members should be aware of this and check all dimensions before using another boats measurements.

Gday All,

I guessed as much, from my reading I came to the conclusion that the Top Hats seem to have quite a large range in mast/sail sizes.

It would be interesting to know what the range is for mast height/luff length?

The luff length for my Mk 1 is approx. 8.4m. And I was thinking approx. 3m for the foot.

Cheers,
Derek

Waiting for the courrier to deliver my brand spanking new #1

Got Keith Brown Sails at Mortlake to make it up for me, $1,240 (hanks not furler), had it made about 1foot larger than the previous sail.

Got my first race this weekend so hope the wind behaves and lets me put it up! :D
