Gday,
Wondering if anyone has any good tips before putting a new outboard motor :D in salt water?

I was going to spray Lanolin on all unpainted metal parts on the leg...should I do the same under the engine cover on the motor itself?

Anything else?

cheers

Think you got it covered. I can't think of anything else you should do. Interestingly, Cohoe Marine in Sydney who I bought my Tohatsu 3.5 from use and recommend Canola oil. This is what i have been using.

Cheers, John

Hi John,
Have you got any rust on the 8hp Merc yet?
I did the Lanolin on the unpainted metal parts on the leg (& under the cover, I think) of that one, would be interesting to find out if it helped slow the corrosion??
cheers

Shaun, I use Inox, or Lanox under the cover every couple of months. The motor looks brand new under there. I also spray the tiller cables and anything out in the open after every second or third sail.

Hope it works the way you want it to.

:D

Shaun, no corrosion problems and she run sweet as. Changed the gearbox oil a few weeks ago. Will check the spark plugs etc when I get a chance.

Cheers, John
