Pop quiz.

How many bolts are there for the 'Harbour Bridge' mast step?

I cant see too much on my TH... There is silicone and rust converter on the deck side, and I think I can only see one bolt towards the bow inside the cabin...

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'll pick "D" Eddie, 12.

I don't know if they are all the same. I have 6 either side.
Hope you can see the holes in the photo.

They were tapped 1/4 whitworth.

Thanks guys,

Can you see the bolts inside the cabin Storm Petrel?- I guess half would be covered by the hood lining

Also, forgive me for asking a silly questions but.....

How is the mast located in the step?

Is there a pin? where is it located (fore/aft or abeam)?

I cant see anything on mine - too much paint.
I went for a dig and located a dome from a dome nut or bolt head... I couldnt get in far enough to see a hex head, but its a start...

Yes all the nuts and bolts are visible inside the cabin of Storm Petrel. You can see them near the main bulkhead in the attached photograph. The others are on the other (V-birth) side of the bulkhead.

Cheers,
Mark

G'Day Jeremy,
I did a drawing a long time ago in another post and I can't find the post now but here is the drawing.
Under the mast plug there is usually a piece of 3mm rubber.
The mast step on Felicite had been filled with araldite by a previous owner, not a good idea. There are only 2 drain holes not 4. I drew it from memory and before I last removed the mast.

I hope it helps.

The biggest problem you will find and it shows in the posts, is that the boats are built by amatuers and they are old, so people fix them the way they know best, or have available to them.

Although you must remember that Noahs Ark was built by an amatuer and the Titanic was built by professionals.
