I think each brand is different, but on iluka I had to remove the whole furler to replace the forestay. I had the mast out of the boat at the time. Each extrusion had nylon spacers to stop the forestay rattling inside the furler extrusions. I had to disassemble the extrusions and thread the wire through each section refitting the spacers as I went. Luckily I was able to carry the section from the boat yard across to the rigger and he swaged the top eyelet after I rethreaded the lot. I replaced all the rigging in one go, I used power drive marine in Williamstown (next to Hobsens bay yacht club) to remake the rigging, then refitted it to the mast myself. I was happy with their service.
Cheers Nick.
