What do you hang ya outboard on?

I've been re installing the V bolts. Funny. I had them all tagged from where I took them off but then I cleaned them up and because they where all the same size (except the u shrouds ones) I didnt bother re tagging them. So as I go to put them on I notice two have the thread further down than the rest so I save these for the rear stay. Having the rest thoroughly installed with sicaflex and double nuts I go into the place of confinement. One side has a fuel tank shelf which take some special yoga moves to get around. Anyway I find the threads are too short so I wiggle out and run the nuts all the way down. get back in and do the job. Thank F for that I'm never going back in there I says to myself. That night I'm thinking "hmm, maybe those ones were from the rear lowers where the mast bent would make them need some extra length." So next morning I look at them and notice two have a slightly less angle on the bend, obviously the rear coz the backstay is up the top , F,F,F,F. Out of the six small ones I had on Five had to be changed. I love using that sticky crap BTW.....not. So thats how I smpent last weekend. This weekend I'm back in there to fit the pushpit which have nut / bolt that I need help with. Someone on the outside with a screw driver. Damn being a single hander has its disadvantages in this case. Yeah Ian like I said I wouldn't like to be glassing blocking in back there I just love the chemical reaction of epoxy going off to fast when its not being used fast enough. I look at the wealthy folk around my marina and think of all this fun they are missing out on.

Aha, interesting info, Rob. It takes a fair bit to crawl into some of these places and do the work. It takes even more to go back in after ya think ya finished but ya need to make some changes :( . But ya did it, so well done I reckon.

When i bought Nightingale she had inspection hatches the ones you put in a dinghy two of them one at the back in the cockpit well and one on the deck at the stern it is amazing how much difference it makes inside as you crawl to the back there is more light and lots of fresh air, it also helps on a fine day to keep the boat aired

Working from inside up in the transom area it would certainly make a difference having a bit more light and fresh air.

Hi Guys ,

Is it the case that Outboards once hung on the back of a Top Hat , is affixed in position on the stern , and that the outboard is steered by way of tiller ( sailboat ) control ??

Brad, as you'll see on Friday, I steer with the main tiller when under motor, however if in reverse I may use the outboard steering in a tight situation where a prop walk isn't enough to bring me alongside easily.

Hi Miker ,

Looking forward to the occasion , and I am sure my monkeys ( oops - I meant children lol ) , will remember Sailing on Pittwater with much excitement until such time as they regularly go sailing , with their dad in the near future on board our own Top Hat .

Much Appreciation ,
