Engine mount woes

Engine mount woes

Postby Shaun » Mon Feb 27, 2012 3:19 pm

Gday,

As you might be able to see from the photos, one of my engine mounts has gone.
I have previously replaced one of these mounts, with a new one I found onboard.

Anyone know where these mounts (or better ones) are available?

Thanks for any replies.

cheers

you can see in one of the photos where I am lifting the engine at the same time, & it is coming away near the top of the mount.

hello Shaun

Do you detail your engine with rust

I'm not sure if their still available ? I tried years ago and had no luck . even Flexi Mount couldn't help at the time

My engine mounts looked the same ! so I pulled my Arona out ,and replaced it with my BMW ,that in turn solved the rubber engine mount problem .
No no no... !! what I did do was ? I drilled a hole right through the mounting plate through the rubber and through the top plate .I then passed a s/s bolt through with a lock nut on top .i then put another nut washer on top and the engine on top and tightened all up .Believe it or not it worked.

I now just have 1/2 S/S bolts with lock nuts as adjustment and lock them off at the height of alignment .

Shaun,
I've had rubber mounts fail too before.
On the D12 Hatz they were replaced with poly flex and a poly flex coupling to take up any misalignment. They regularly advertise in Afloat. See the web or the magazine. (Page 70 Feb 2012)

The web site is;
http://www.polyflex.com.au

They're based in queensland.

Hope it helps.
PS I don't know the size but they had 2 fixing bolts and one engine mounting stud. Tony Clapson Marine swore by them. The Hatz he just swore at!
