Turnbuckles

Turnbuckles

Postby Killick69 » Thu Aug 11, 2011 7:12 am

Checking out the rigging with replacement in mind I noticed the turnbuckles are all the same size (all wire is 3/16), except the turnbuckle on the forestay, which is larger (longer and thicker). Has anyone else come across this? The only reason I can see for the larger turnbuckle on the forestay is because the toggle on the smaller turnbuckles would not fit on the bowsprit/anchor roller. The hole in the bowsprit/anchor roller is cut some distance from the edge and a bigger clearance is needed at the last pin. I am thinking that a smaller (same size as the other turnbuckles) one could have been used, with a shackle. Hence saving dollars and keeping things simple(rigger making up rigging does not have to worry bout what goes where and in adjusting can use same spanners throughout). It looks like Ronstan RF1531-0604 (open type), or RF1576-0604 (closed type) and eye RF1500-0506 or 0606 are the correct items.
Cheers.
