Postby rob.lovelace » Mon Nov 22, 2010 2:19 pm

Speak to me guys, my forwrd lower shrouds are bending the mast forward a couple of inches the lower backs are not tight (not loose) I want to tune my rig to reduce a bit of weater helm ( a little) in gusty winds I often have the helm hard over to maintain course.

What can I do

Hi Rob,

Here comes a new topic ! :o

My Mk1Egret II has about 6" of mast rake to the top of the boom my mast is straight no bend in the middle.Egret II s front lowers are tightish ,back lowers have 1" approx in movement in a circular motion. But Egret II has a heavy stick and an extra 500lb of lead in her keel . In winds over 15 knts I put in a reef and change headsails down to a working jib I also move the traveller down 3" to 4" and flattern the main a little and she loves it. Maybe this might help.

cheers Bear

Thanks Bear that gives me a starting point. There is quite excessive bend in my mast, which leaves little if any adjustment room for me. so I'll straighten it up and check the rake.
