I'm one for having a new strong standing rig and let it do its work, but the need for a spare mast may be a bit of overkill. But I'm no expert.

Thank you for your advice on the boom, etc, Wild Rose. Regarding the rigging, I've spent a lot of time at sea on lots of different vessels, many of the places I want to visit again are in places so windy they extinguished my Cuban cigar and blew out my glass eye, and there's a few islands up North of Sweden such as Svalbard, at around 78° North, so I need to be prepared for a worst case scenario. Almost all of my previous vessels have had chug-chugs to push them along, so hanging washing on the clothesline and letting the wind blow you along is something I haven't done in a few years. Best wishes eh? Cheerio!
