Which Cruising Grounds?

Which Cruising Grounds?

Hi,
Currently on a swing mooring at Batemans Bay (Square Head). Thinking about maybe moving north a bit. Not that I don't love where I am but it takes 2.5 hours to get to the boat and BB doesn't have very good facilities for yachties. I wouldn't want to drive any more than about 4 hours. Love Sydney as cruising ground but wouldn't be able to get a good mooring, not living in the locality. What are facilities like at Lake Macquarie? Secure parking for cars? Restaurants etc for the 2IC? Choice of slipways/marinas etc? At the moment I am probably lucky to be able to get to boat about every 3 or 4 weeks. Might just be a pipe dram at the moment but thought I would throw it out there to get some ideas on favourite home ports. I live at Yass, NSW.

You don't have to live nearby to get hold of a good mooring in Port Hacking, Sydney Harbour or Pittwater, they are provided on a waiting list system. Take a look at the Waterways site, they have the size of the waiting lists in each location. You can get a mooring straight away in some places while other more desirable locations will require some patience.

Yass to Lake Macquarie is going to take a lot more than 4 hours drive.
