CYC Sydney

Just back from lovely cruise down to Sydney from Brisbane Waters. I want to recommend to CYC at Rushcutters Bay to Hatters. What a great venue to stay a day or two; Cheap as chips, great bar and cafe, clean showers and 24 HR operation. It was very civilized this morning sitting having coffee and bacon and eggs overlooking most of the Sydney/Hobart fleet at the CYC before sliding Storm Petrel from her pen and heading North. A lovey sail North largely with kite up and averaging 5.6 knots for the 25 mile trip.

The visiting yacht fee was $40 a night.

Where else could you get waterfront accommodation so close to the city centre for that? It is a about a block from the CYC to Edgecliff station so the city is in easy reach or you can walk to the city centre if you prefer a 30 minute stroll.

We had to beat up the harbor into a westerly when we arrived on Monday afternoon and the sun was just setting behind the harbor bridge when we cleared Bradley's Head - The opera house and bridge looked brilliant! Bob who sailed down with me said, ' I wonder what the millionaires are doing this afternoon' ? He said the same thing when we were looking at their toys while having breakfast at the CYC - I guess they were at work paying for the bloody things. My Top hat was undoubtedly the smallest and roughest yacht in the marina but I suspect I use it more and have just as much fun as any of them.

Please note that I have no affiliation with the CYC (other then that one of the founding members, the late Jack Earl, was an old friend and the best man at my wedding 35 years ago).

Cheers,
Mark
