Rob i am pretty sure i know your boat she was for sale for quite a while she was expensive but in real good nick and i am sure she is shoal draft , she looks it in your video , also i remember her advertised way back as shoal draft, she was the very first i had seen, i used to own blue moon Shauns boat she is also shoal draft , would explain why you found you couldnt get close to the wind in the strong wind

Bill,

Robs' SUNDOWNER is not a shoal draft Top Hat, unless he has not told us that he only has 5' 6" head room. :o

As I mention under "How much water" [in General] Shoal draft Top Hats have no water in the bilge as extra lead
was added there to keep them upright, but some have a raised floor, [only 2 known of at this stage]
which reduces the headroom, under which a water tank was constructed.

Without the raised floor and the underfloor water tank, the head room is as normal or slightly higher in shoal draft Top Hats.

Rob has mentioned before that he may have 80 to 100 litres in the keel tank!

Hi phil on the hard stand at the yacht club at Burnett heads is another shoal draft which by the way is for sale, i have been on her years ago and from memory she had decent head room, if you go to Robs video you can see her being moved and she looks to my eye to be shoal draft ,if Simon is still the broker at hastings he could solve the discussion as i am sure he knows the boat well

it draws about 1300mm
I remember one from Hastings it had a diesel didn't it?
Sundowner has been a Yaringa boat for years, previously Sandringham where she was in a poor state. Col Baring bout her around and restored it the. Andrew had it for a year befor I bought her.

BTW as this is about cruising I just crossed the bar at Bermagui and will be here for a couple of days before heading to Batemans Bay. Had a good run up from Eden. BIG BIG swell, easily up to the spreaders sometimes the boat beside me was vanishing.

Rob,

With that swell, what was the Bermagui Bar like?

the bar here is no worries at any tide they tell me Phillip. It's only a problem with a big NE swell which they get about 3 -4 times a year, usually after a cyclone up north. I'm not even going to look at Narooma, I've been across that a few times in a zodiac and its a tad mental.

Rob,

The bars up here are FFFFlat with no swell out to sea at the moment.

Not much wind either!

not a bad day sail up to Moruya Heads then up the river a few miles to the town. The bar was okay but the river is pretty shallow in places. I can't edit my photos on the phone to down size them so ill post one on the Facebook site.
