I have Egret II's mooring on Lake Mac every 12 months When she was on Middle Harbour every 18 months or so. The only reason being ,nothing exciting wind wise apart from the westerlies happens in Quakers Hat Bay ,that was my mooring guy's advice . So maybe ask who ever services your mooring he will know?
Again what's $100 or so for peace of mind .It's like an insurance bonus

I have mine done every May, just before the mooring license is due. This year, scrubber chain and swivel. Last year chafe guard and main rope thingy..... About $300 each time, but still worth it when you have this kind of weather!

This time I was lucky.
The mooring is in 2.5m of water over sand. Just before Easter I decided to haul it up by hand, I can see the swivel and top half of the chain.
I was horrified to find the the swivel bolt was about to pul through the swivel, the shackel pin was worn half through. I called another mooring contractor whom was recommended to me other than the one I usually use. He replaced it just before Easter in 2 days time before a good blow. Nearly all the gear was replaced. It was due to be serviced in July. I get the mooring serviced every 12 months.

In a westerly she performs well in Belmont Bay. I hope its still there. I was thinking of moving it to Styles Bay but it was too rough. She'll take it now.
One of the locals was saying that last time a boat broke free and damaged others it was a House boat from Marks Pt that hit a few others. Marks Pt is half a mile away!

Every year religiously.

The cost of not getting it done is too high.

I am in Hawaii (in a renovated plantation workers cottage overlooking Kekaha Beach on Kauai) for a few weeks. Tough life but someone has to live it.

Storm Petrel is in a very sheltered mooring, but I still get her mooring serviced once a year. Mother Goose is across the bay and there is a sloop on the market for $200k about 50m away. I just know if Storm Petrel broke free she would make a beeline for the most expensive boat in the bay.

Aloha,
Mark

I service my own [each Christmas when the water is warm] and a couple of others in the Camden Haven River on a no responsibility basis as we have no commercial mooring contractors here.

They would go bust trying to live off 20 moorings!

Rule 1. If it looks even a little bit worn it's replaced.

Rule 2 to 6 billion. See rule 1.

A bloke in the local boat club was going to do the annual service to his his mooring last weekend. However, the week before he got to do it, he had a phone call saying his boat was AWOL. Not much damage done as another boatie caught it quickly but still, not good.

Unlike Storm Petrel, his boat has no interest in $200,000 boats so it was probably a pointy bit of a steel boat that it dinged itself on.

A link in the chain had corroded away. When the bloke asked around, he found that the two closest boats to his are steel hulls and both have electrolosis problems (or something like that). So, seems stray lectrickery done his chain in.

Hi,
Having had several moored boats at Square Head, just outside Batemans Bay, I have found it necessary to have the mooring professionally serviced twice per year. The sandy bottom obviously causing more wear than mud. Also, for those without a professional person to service their moorings, how is your insurance should you need to make a claim due to mooring breakage?

Just remember that there is no Australian standard for moorings.

But New Zealand has one.

With no standard, who can claim to be qualified to service a mooring apart from owning the equipment to do the job?
