I bought 25 metres, it's about right to give you some spare to top and tail and move the wear points. I have a full spectra main halyard, and will replae the headsail halyard with the same when its got too tatty.....

Thanks Miker

Did you put a quick release on the end or do you just tie on each time ? What size of spectra ?

Cheers

Rod

Rod, I used 10mm in the fastest red I could get :D

Instead of tying on each time, I tied a bowline to a RF1033 Captive Pin Halyard Shackle 1/''; from Whitworths. Quicker and easier than the bowline each time and has the strength required.

G'Day Rod,
Mike good description, may I add, I use the same system, only dfference is I used a fishermans bend which is a little stronger and more secure. The bowline can work loose with vibration and handling.
Another thing I found was that when you use the main halyard to attach to the topping lift on the boom, in winds of about 5kts the line will humm. Sounds like a motor cruiser. If you have a separate topping lift, most have, tie them together with a short length of small stuff 300mm above the shackel to stop the vibration.
On 2 occasions people have thought the bearings in the wind instruments needed replacing. It was the Aoelian vibration.
Another piece of useless information!

Greg, surely you mean an Anchor Hitch? Not a Fisherman's Bend?

Perhaps on June 2 we could have a knot workshop. I only know three, apart from a granny knot.........

I use an eye splice and halyard shackle with 8mm spectra on Storm Petrel (ie no knots)
