Just in case anyone missed it. We are planning a Top Hat gathering at the Basin on Saturday the 2nd of June. You can register your interest under Events below. Registering your interest will help those looking for a pal to sail to Pittwater 'in company'.
let's hope for good weather. See you there.

G'day Mark,
Im still really hoping I can get up there, but at the moment my boat is in a mess, i have no stairs in the companian way, i have no motor in the boat ( Means no stinky diesel
), a stern glade hanging on, and no mast step at the moment, and also my boat may be on the hard stand that weekend.
Its all going on at the moment on the Dawn Breaker, but i might get up there by car if the boats not out of the water. Really sorry guys but the boat at the moment is in no state to go to sea.
But in a few months it wil be.
Cheers Aaron.

Hopefully Denis will organize another November get together at the HRYC and you will be able to join us on Dawn Breaker then. If you come up by car on the 2 nd you will need to park at Palm Beach and get the ferry over to the Basin or organize a lift on one of the Top Hats going.
Cheers,
Mark

Aaron, we are taking Russell from Careel Bay, so have space for another. We wont have a spare berth for overnight, but you can camp at the Basin or there may be a berth on another boat.

Aaron,
I am planning to be there and you are welcome on "Sea Lady".
My sailing up this weekend was aborted because the waves were a lot bigger than predicted.
3-5 metres by our reckoning and very close together and very rough.
All on board got soaked.
The max wave height measured at Manly was 4.7 metres and I reckon we got that one for sure.
So Sea Lady is still in Sydney Harbour waiting for a day with crew that has waves that are more manageable.

Diana, I thought I saw you off Manly at one stage, did you try to fly a kite?
Today, Sunday, would have been the perfect day if you stayed in close. We had a delightful two hours around Pittwater this arvo.

Denis are you out there in cyberspace??? Will you or any of the other HRYC Top Hats be coming to the Basin for the get together on the 2nd?
You did the right thing Diana. The wind was too strong on Saturday and too light on Sunday. Add the seas and it would not have been pleasant on either day. Mind you the surf was fun both days. I did try to go for a sail earlier today(Sun) but after an hour of being becalmed, I decided to come home for lunch and a surf instead. Up this end of the coast the breeze was non existent until about 2pm when a gutless Northerly came up. You would have been motoring North in that solid swell - not fun.

Thanks.
Yes I was off Manly.
Not trying to fly a kite.
Was reefed down fully and still was horrible. We estimated 3-5 metre waves.
Have been given a website. wavewindtide.sydneyports.com.au/wave/weather_original.asp
That gives real time wave measurements frequently. And this is used by Marine Rescue. They told me about ther website.
On Saturday the highest waves off Botany Bay, (which is the wave measurement buoy) were nearly 6 metres.
Too big for me!!!! as I learned the hard way.
As I type average wave height measures 2.11m, max 3.78m at 10am today.
Max in last 24 hours measured about 11pm last night 4.5m waves.
It also gives wave periods.
Today the forecast from BOM for Sydney Coastal Waters is Seas below 1 metre Swell Easterly 2-3 metres.
Seabreeze says about 1.5metres.
I am trying hard to make sense of predictions vs reality.

Dont forget Dianna when coast guard read out the weather they always say waves may be twice the hight and wind gust may be 40% stronger than the averages given here. I always get my weather from Sea Breeze and Willy weather as they get there weather from bom, which is a hard site to use.
