Hey Bear, I think I saw, as I blasted past in my MKIII, a Mk I on the end of the pier.

I guess the very rough and ready boat competition just punched out another one.
BTW, did it move?

 ;)

Hi Greg

Greg, you know why there was a Mk1 at the "Toronto CLASSIC Boatfest "? Yes ! Toronto Classic boat fest is ,because the Mk1 apart from being the most beautiful of the top hats is also classed as a classic . No Mk 3's there ? I guess their just not a classic ,............YET !!!

 Bear

Lake Macquarie Classic Boat Fest

The Lake Macquarie Classic Boat fest Easter weekend activities include over 70 classic and heritage boats on display lovingly built or restored, along with stalls, amusement rides and children’s activities.

Other exhibits include classic cars, vintage machinery and art and historic displays. The Quick and Dirty boat building competition commences 10am Sunday. Design and build your boat in three hours and then compete in the Quick and Dirty race. This is a great spectacle on the day and a lot of fun for participants.

Bear, Bear, Bear....... you know what they do with a classic? They usually spend a couple more years improving on it. In the car world, a car is a classic when it's 30 years old, which means any Mark III can be a classic..... ;)

In yachting terms, your Mark 1 could be classed as a vintage..... or even a veteran like it's skipper :D

Got that motor fixed yet?

Dear Mick

I took the liberty of looking up the meaning of the word "classic ", and came to this conclusion .

clas·sic/ˈklasik/
Adjective:
Judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its kind.
Noun:
A work of art of recognized and established value.

Now seeing the Mk 1 came before the Mk 2 which came before the Mk 3 then that must mean the Mk1 is a classic and the Mk 3 cannot be one !
The noun meaning ? gee how can you debate this apart from one extra point ?A work of art of recognized and established value. Now that's so true , not forgetting the shear beauty of the Mk 1

Bear

Humble note
Mike
No , my BMTrouble D7 is still sick ! but getting better. just had the injector pump serviced and has 210 bar pressure which is more than my D7 needs .So if the bastard doesn't start I guess it will still remain a true sailboat. If does start ?I'll be buying a tube and going tubing .... yippee

Cheers Bear
PS Trying to get it going for my son 13 birthday as he as never seen Egret II motoring

Ah Bear, it's good to see you back, and you're front too.

Well, now Egret II is classed as a classic in her class, why not take a wee trip to Pittwater for a bit of a holiday? Bolt an outboard on her for the bar and away you go, tube and all

There are only three reasons engines don't run. 1) Spark, and that's out because you don't have any -2) Fuel, and now you're showing good pressure at the injectors you should be fine and 3) THIS IS THE BIGGIE... compression. You must have compression! I'm assuming you've dont this, if not you should.

Anyway, Old Dulcamara is now sitting on her mooring, nice and slippery after a bum clean and waiting for our next day/weekend out. Our two days over Easter were quite magic.

Mike, Bears diesel has lots of compression. We did a valve grind on it, and you can't turn it over by hand even when its cold.
The injector doesn't crack like it should, hopefully with more fuel pressure it will. We removed a loop in the exhaust pipe to reduce back pressure.
I didn't want to interfere with the fuel system. Usually when they are set they don't need adjustment.
The air cleaner is clear, (it hasn't got one).

Bear now knows more about that engine than I do.
The other problem is that it is really hard to find a diesel mechanic that is;
a) available
b) prepared to work on small diesels.
