Hey Rod, you're going to get lots of answers on this, but I particularly like this story. http://boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/rename.htm

We went through a whole lot of different thoughts of renaming our boat from Dulcamara - and no, I don't really know what it means, but after 2.5 years, the name has grown on us....

If you do decide to do a re-naming ceremony, I'd love to be involved....

Thanks Rob, yes you're correct. I often say I don't know what it means to see if anyone comes up with anything different to what I understand it to mean. It's also a herb used in Ayervedic (sp?) medicine to treat herpes and anxiety.....

I understood it to be Dulca - Dolce = Sweet - Amara - amore = Love. Although the herb itself is also known as Bitter Sweet..... The original name was Dollar Bird II, but I have no idea why or when the name was changed, lets hope the previous owners fulfilled the requirements of the register of the deep!

An invitation will be sent out to all who wish to attend to the name changing ceremony of our Top Hat "Frith" to "Wild Rose". Copious amounts of the most expensive (That we can afford) Australian Champagne ( well, see is a aussie girl) will be used. I am betting on having many wittness's that "Neptune" and the other sea gods wil not miss that we did all that was required of us. ( just in case they were all watching "state of origin" on the TV and missed the ceremony)

:D

let us know when and I will gladly sacrifice a bottle over here in SA so that your vessel is assured safe passage through our waters if she ever gets over this way :D

Will do Tom, as soon as she comes off the hard stand.

That will be great chris, as see was born in SA (Launched Aderlade 1985) and sailed the waters of SA for a long time.

Just a wee question Dave,

You said she [Wild Rose to be] was launched in SA, does that mean she was shipped over there or built there?

Just wondering. :?:
