Those members on the list with winches on the cabin top how are they attached, with screws or bolts & nuts. Does any one have a photo of the inside of their cabin roof . I am considering installing a winch on the cabin top so I can raise the mainsail from the cockpit & I would like to know the best way to attach it. I have a MK II which doesn't have the support beam on the bottom of the mast or winches and jammers on the cabin top.

Steve, I placed a similar question on 6/9/2005 "Replacing Rope Jammers/Clutches....." and received a helpful reply from GosfordPhil. Might be worth a look. Mind you, mine is a Mk III.

Cheers

make sure when you mount anything to the coach house roof you put some blody
big washers under them so they don't dig in and ideally get the right size
bolts so you don't have to cut them off after as the curve inthe roof makes
it very difficult and if you use an angle grinder you will discolour the
roof with the heat.

G'day Cyril,

I read through your question and GosfordPhil's reply leaves me confident that correct size screws and sikaflex should do the trick.

Did you ever attach a jpeg to the original post as I couldn't see one ?

Hello Steve,
You're right! I cannot see the .jpg either. When I go aboard on Friday, I'll take a few shots of above and below my winches and put them up on the site for you to have a look.
Cheers
Cyril

I have a top hat mark 3 . There is an inspection plate on the inner lining below the winches. There is some reinforcing below the winches but on replacing my cabin top winches recently i found that this reinforcing collapsed. I can only assume timber was ment to be glassed in but some how got left out. Anyway I had to drill new holes to fit the harken winches and through bolted them. I have attached rope jammers with screws but the force on these is static and horozontal. I would advise through bolting if access can be gained. I have a small piece of marine ply screwed over the inspection plate. Hope this helps
Phil

Hello Steve,
Sorry for the delay in getting these pictures to you. I hope they are still of use. One is from above the cabin and one is from below. Clearly the winches have been bolstered by round pieces of wood about 1 cm thick. I'll try uploading the pictures now.
Cheers
