A very sad day...

Hey All

It is a very sad day today, as I have sold Solitude, after 3 and a bit years and a few great adventures.

I hope the new owner gets as much out of this site as I did. He is a great guy and very excited about sailing adventures ahead with his family.

I can't say enough good things about Tophats, and I think ultimately this is why I am very sad to see Solitude head off into the sunset. They are a extremely seaworthy boat, and more capable than a lot of the plastic modern boats I have sailed on.

I have never heard a bad word uttered about a Tophat and any stay over in a Marina results in lots of others recalling memories in Tophat etc., all foundly retold. The are a bloody fantastic boat.

I will keep lurking in the wings of the forum, I have no doubts, and enjoy Bears continual stirring, Phillips insight and all the other regulars here.

In the shorter term will be forced to stink boat around... longer term will be looking to restore a tophat or compass but that is some years off.

Fair winds all...

Karl

Sailing a Top Hat is a bit like having a Rembrandt. You never really 'own' it, you are only the loving custodian of it for a time. I suspect our Top Hats will outlive us all.

Sorry for your loss,

All the best to you Karl,
let us know how you go with the mo'bo
No doubt you'll be back in a yacht one day....maybe when the kids get older(& probably when their bored with the mo'bo & start looking for a bit more adventure)
cheers
Shaun

Thanks all... will have to crew on Tophats to get my fix I think!

I would go back to a Tophat in a blink of an eye and long term will keep my eyes out for a project one, to work on in the front yard, or perhaps win a few million and buy a Hans Christian 48!

You really like lead mines don't you Karl!
You know you can only sail a Hans Christian when there is a gale or storm warning current.

Greg.
