Dropping the stick

Hello Hatters

I've dropped Egret II mast 3 times in 14 years .The first time was when I bought her to check her rigging etc .I tied her between my Fathers Swanson 38 and his mates Adams 36 .I wrapped a rope around Egret II 's mast and shackled the main halyards of the two yachts to the rope .As we winched the halyards up the rope slips up under the spreaders an presto the mast rises .Then all we did was lower it and walk it along the deck . :D I did the same procedure to stand it up again. :D :D

The second time I used my Brothers little 24 footer yacht with a timber mast :o to do the same as above ,but to paint and rewire the lights etc.The only scary  bit was using one yacht was that Egret II mast wanted to fall towards my brothers mast just had to grab it and hold it .

The last time was when Egret II was being moved up to Lake Macquarie and we just used the 38 for the job,but the same problem ,the mast wanted to fall towards the 38's mast.

If or when I do it again ? I would use 2 Top Hats or similar size .The reason being is that you can stand on the deck closest to the yacht having it's stick lifted this would move the 2 lift masts closer to the one being lifted. :? and this would make it easier to control.

Cheers Bear

PS I stood Egret II mast with 4 mates 2 spinnaker poles 2 clamps and a piece of plywood :?
