Hi everyone,
I have a Mk2 at Hampton Sailing Club in Vic and in a recent big wind the bow
fitting has worked from side to side and is almost off. It has also ripped
a bit of the teak gunwale off as it has worked from side to side. It was
just sitting on it's mooring and I have no idea why it has happened. Maybe
the bow fiotting was a bit loose to start with end it just worked and worked
as it swung. Might pay for other woners with similiar mounting meathod to
check how tight their bow fittings are. Unfortunately it also holds the mast
up as you all know. It seems to only have one large bolt running from top
to bottom through the bow block. Do they all use the same method? Has
anyone else had the problem and any mods to cure the problem?
Thanks
John Dayman

Had a similar problem with my bow fitting. I have a single rod/bolt going through the bow plate and block, (bow to stern). On examination following purchase I found the 1/4 inch rod had broken. On replacing with 5/16 rod I found the bow block had rotted out due to water entering the bow block area from the deck coming away from the hull below the bow plate. I ended up getting a shipwright to grind out the old block and fiberglass in a new block. expensive but money well spent as the job did not look like fun. 3/8 SS booker rod was used to secure the bow plate, with addition to self tappers throught the top and both sides of the bow plate. Hope this helps
Phil
