Scuppers

Hi,

On Blue Moon (MkIII) there are no :? scuppers, water off the deck can only get away right at the aft, on each side.
While at the mooring the rain collects on each side & pools on the very narrow part of the deck where the sheet winches are located.
Do you think i could safely grind away a small section of the lip at the gunwhale to let the water get away at that point & run down the hull, as is usual on most TH's?

Thanks for any replies
Shaun

One way to solve your problem is to drill a hole through side of your scuppers to take 18 mm conduit. Cut the conduit ends at an angle and let it protude about 20mm over the side this will stop dirty water marks on the hull.It also pays to seal the raw fibreglass with epoxy glue or aridite

Storm Petrel has a hole drilled through the gunwhale lip at the lowest point of the deck (adjacent to the sheet winches) and water drains freely through it rather than collecting on the deck. It has been elongated at some stage with a file and sealed. I keep the gunwhale edge pretty clean and the draining water does not leave a mark on the topsides.

Cheers,
Mark

Shaun,

Next time you go out to Blue Moon, have a look at my scuppers.
