Yacht Brokers in Pittwater

Postby Shaun » Fri Feb 26, 2010 10:34 am

Hello,
Wondering if any members have any experience with yacht brokers in Pittwater?, i'm keen to hear any story's good or bad.
As im contemplating sailing NightCap down for the Regatta :) , & then leaving her with a broker in pittwater to handle the sale. I presume you have to hire a mooring off them while they have it listed for sale?
Any other details or catches  worth looking out for when dealing with brokers?

Thanks
Shaun

HI shaun,

I bought 'Storm Petrel' from Lamoore Yacht Sales in Pittwater. As a buyer, I found them very professional. They do most of their advertising through the web. Their web site is excellent and I still look at it each week to see what they have for sale and how things are selling. I cannnot say what they are like from the sellers point of view, but it might be worth having a chat with them.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Shaun

My brother-in-law recently purchased a Cavalier 27 through Lamoore and I buy my antifoul from them each year, but I've not had experience as a seller. However, I know that for buyers they were always available, had good knowledge of what they were selling and seem to have a steady supply of good boats that attracts potential buyers. I had a look at two Top Hats they had for sale before finding Isabella up at Lake Macquarie. I sold an Adams 21 many years ago through another broker on Pittwater ( now not in business) and found them somewhat shonky.

Good luck with who you choose - but Lamoore would be my first pick,

Cheers

Hi Shaun,

I've dealt with Lamoore once, before I bought Dulcamara privately. They seem to be pretty knowlegable, and also have a good office set up and they do know their stuff.

In the end, you need to make sure they're not using your boat as a lost leader to get people into something bigger. That would be my only reservation.

The other reservation is the prices they charge. They're commissions are pretty expensive.

Cheers
Michael.

Hi Shaun

I've also dealt with Lamoore as a buyer not a seller. In fact I bought my Mk III Tails, through them and they were very professional and accommodating and would take me out most Saturdays to look at the top hats they had at the time. They were very aware of my relatively modest budget (compared to the larger yachts on the books), but I always felt like I got their full attention and nothing was too much hassle even though i'm sure I was pretty indecisive at the time!

I would certainly go back to them again from a buyers point of view.

We also had some dealings with David Bray over in Pittwater too. Mike King took us out a few times and gave some very good advice on top hats (having owned one himself a few years ago). Mike again, was very professional, friendly yet experienced and nothing was any hassle for him.

These are the two main ones we used when looking at the time and had a good experience with, from a buying point of view. But both were very tophat friendly :D

Sorry, but no experience with the selling side of things.

Hope that helps though
