I am planning to get a dodger/Bimini made up for my Mk 1.
Has anyone on the forum got advice/experience/suggestions?

Should I get an off-the-shelf bimini?

Evening Tom in the Far North,

I investigated getting a bimini for my Mark 1 last year.

SIT DOWN!

I looked at a 25mm ss tube frame like the one in the photo, thanks to Longdeepthinker John.

I only got as far as pricing the frame = $650.00
I did not price the canvas but estimated that at around 1-2 hundred $'s.

Needless to say the bimini is still on the wish list.

I have the drawings if you want a copy.

This is what I expected; pricey...but on the other hand one would like to be able to collide with the structure and not have it collapse.

That is my Dodger in the pics and was on the boat when I purchased it.The frame appears to be quite solid and the dodger adds to the appearance and comfort factors.

My boat also has a Bimini and I will try to talk Phil into posting some pics of same.

Can`t help with costing or design as bimini was also on boat at purchase.

I have often wondered why there is not a thriving network of boat wreckers/ second hand dealers in the boating market.What happens to all the dead and dying boats out there?Must be numerous dodger frames lying around somewhere.

Hi Tom & John,

This is my Bimini, its an Oceansouth WhiteWater 1.5 to 1.7m width, height 1150mm size B, Bias Boating code 6381.

As you can see I have reconfigure it so that it attaches to my stern pulpit You need extra fittings and a lenght of tube.
If you want to do it this way I will make up a shopping list for you. About $300 + transport. It is also advisable to get the storage boot if your boat sits around, to protect the bimini from storms and UV. I also had the canvas cut and velcro put on to allow the back stay to pass through (I will get a photo).

I only have a full size drawing of the dodger, so will have to redraw it next week for you.

When do you plan to set off?

Looking at the adapted Ocean South Bimini makes me wonder if there is enough shelter with this alone; allowing for the combing and the fact that one can hunch up close to it if need be.

When putting in the mountings did you have to cut access hatches in order to put backing support?

The Cairns trip has been delayed..now cyclone season looms so March is looking more likely. Gives more time to complete all of these little jobs that always take three times the effort and resources as initially estimated.

Evening Tom,

Have a look at the photo again and you will see that the Bimini is clamped onto
the stern pulpit in two places on each side. No need for any extra holes!

Should have the drawing for the dodger up next week.

I have taken the spray dodger off Sea Monkey. It looked good and did a job, but really got in the way. It would be great when on a long passage with few changes of direction, but when taking up and down pittwater or Sydney Harbour it became a pain.
