I've just bought a boat. It does not have a holding tank. Am I likely to be fined by NSW Maritime?

I carry a portapotty under the forward bed. Never had any smell problems as I use the recommended chemicals.

Always make at least one deposit on a voyage so if hauled up can point there and say I'm using that at present!

Thank you Captain, I guessed that might be the way to go. I intend to carry a sealed deposit in a panel recessed into the wall. "In case of emergency, break glass" it shall say, and a pair of tongs will be provided for handling purposes. Alternatively, one could carry a sample at the top of the mast, with a long tube and a press button. Upon sighting the constabulary, one would press a button, causing it to slide down and drop into the appropriate receptacle...

have been variously told that it's ok to use toilet without holding tank once (1) 5 kms and 1(2) 5 kms "out'

I also found this from "Boatsales" o Intrnet ...Before we start, bear in mind that under Australia’s maritime laws, a bucket of untreated human
waste can’t be tipped overboard unless you are more than 12 nautical miles offshore. (That's 22 kMs!! ..Jack) Even offshore, if you are
anywhere inside a marine park, it’s also a no-go zone for dumping. In other words, you’re going to have to keep it onboard.

All well and good...yes it's an outside job...god help the fish. By the time the new toilet was 'in' even without the electrics (I'm a engineer/genuine electrical fitter-mechanic/auto electrician etc so will do that when next on board) I bought the toilet at $700 plus delivery and best part of $900 to have the old one out and new one in. That's a lot of money. Banking on my own times...I was a Marina contractor long ago I thought 2-3 hours would knock that off even taking it easily...same with remove solar panel replace with 2 x solar panels and hook up 2 xnew controllers...I figured maybe an hour and an half...ended up 4 hours...ok owing a boat ...do wat you can do well, yourself...still I'm giving someone some work an his price for antifoul was $800 below the next price and $2200 less than another one around the corner at the Spit....I spent $6800 ...money unrecoverable when I sell it.but once the foredeck is done it will be hard to find a sounder boat...$550 of that was the survey though. I'm still chasing its history and trying to find the other Tophat 25 with transom hung rudder...could be somewhere on the gold coast (anyone seen it?)
