1st. piece of pvc pipe bent. The idea is to attach a number of these to the boom (pop rivet or screwed underneath & sides) to act as guides or supports when lowering the main, as an alternative to lazy Jacks.

So what happens about the holes you drill in the boom, will these be weak points??

Will that work with a boom shade?

I have my doubts about your idea woodsy, bit more thinking I think?

Taken me 3 years to start on this idea. I don't use a boom tent, so no problem there. The drill holes I've previously done to affix items using aluminium pop rivets on the boom have not created any obvious problems after 4 years so far.
The PVC pipe may break down quickly in the sunlight though.
I cut a large hole on 1 side of the PVC to take the head of the rivet gun so I can rivet through the drill hole on the other side of the PVC into the boom. The large hole may weaken the pipe too much in supporting the sail, long term.
I may need an aluminium washer against the PVC to reinforce it to the boom.
An alternate idea is to cut larger PVC pipe in half length ways, rivet them either side of the boom as rain gutters to catch water off the main & also to catch the sail when I drop it.

If you use electrical conduit that is grey it is ok for sunlight, on the conduit there will be a letter "T" which means UV resistant. The orange is for underground and not UV resistant. (Yup, I'm a sparky).

This is the mk111. Accept the gumboot as a boom.Visualize!

The mk1111 worked but my design consultant said it was ugly . I agree & can't see any improvement over lazyjacks so will eventually fit some.
