I've had my boat out of the water getting the engine mounts sorted out and have worked on a side project I've been thinking about for a while

The head under the v-berth has been the only part of my boat that i haven't been super stoked on.. it turns into an issue when the girls come along and moving the v berth around when under way is a hassle and sleeping above a recently used toilet not that romantic.

i've been jealous of the stand alone heads i've seen on other tophats so i moved it into the cabin. here's some photos

the toilet is a lavac marine head which a friend of mine has on his boat. direct pump out, no holding tank

mocked it up with cardboard first

there were 4 thru hulls i removed that were no longer used. 2 were ancient, siezed and unmovable, the other 2 looked okay but were too far forward for where i wanted to run the plumbing






i glassed over the holes and put in a couple of new trudesign thru hulls + seacocks

finally hooked the plumbing up.. working with that large hose is like wrestling a giant anaconda





While i was about it i also changed the thru hull + seacock for the engine water intake as suggested by phillip i think as well as the one under the sink so it's new seacocks all round

I had a great time doing this mod which i've been thinking about for sometime

few other little things - while engine was out cleaned bilge of 50 years of oil/gunk, replaced broken bilge pump and replaced the leaking drinking water hose



glassed over broken speed log/transducer thruhull + 4 x new engine mounts


lashed a solar panel to the starboard side to stop the house battery going flat


finally put some new anti foul on the bottom

Tell us, what is the extra fin you have over the top of the rudder in your last photo??

I was also wondering what that fin/skeg was above the rudder

yep i have no idea what that little fin thing is.. i've had a few opinions from some old timers at the yard one who thought it may have been added to improve stability in following seas?

dunno..

as far as the galley goes - the sink / icebox etc are on the starboard side, the new toilet is where the big stove/oven was sitting which I've taken out cause we don't use it.

the plan is to get a smaller little gimballed burner happening, at the moment we've been using a little butane burner camp stove sitting on the engine step..
