Yacht's History

Is it possible to trace the history of an individual yacht? Maybe with the registration number? I wonder if anyone has tried. My Dad was sailing Novara around 1987 here in SA and I guess she was built around 1981, so that's not much time to account for.
Cheers, NB

Hi NB, I believe the registration number doesn't provide much help.

Probably the best way to start to track history is via the previous owners, perhaps using details on the rego transfer paperwork done when the boat changed hands. But then the paperwork has to have been stored somewhere.

It is great to hear of a Top Hat staying in the one family for so long.

What Troppo said is correct.

If you have a sail number check the AYF site for when it was issued [numbers issued once only so should stay with yacht]

If you have a sail number check with local yacht clubs as she would have only got the number if racing.

Otherwise if you have the original engine beds in place have a look for a number carved into one of them.

This is the build number. I have only been told of this so if anyone out there can find one please post a photo and the yachts details.
