Just wanting to introduce the idea to members about having a top hat state title regetta similar to that of the endeavours. What are the thoughts within the group?
Cheers

Not a bad idea Phil!
Briefly, how does the endeavour regatta work?

Cheers, Bryce

Love the idea of a regatta. Have been racing with the Top Hat Sailing Association for the last 12 months (the token Top Hat as everyone else has moved on to bigger and mostly faster boats). It would be great to compete against other TH's.

I am on the central coast and gosford sailing club has built a new marina that could possibly hold 15 top hats around the perimeter. They hosted the state and national endeavour championships last season and should be supportive. Brisbane waters has enough perminat bouys to get windward and leeward courses. The other options would be sydney harbour or lake macquarie but we would have to find a club to host. For the regetta to be a success we would need 10+ enteries for the inaugural NSW state titles. I prepose a 2 day regetta over a weekend with 2 races on the first day and 1 on the second to allow boats to return to home ports. Pre regetta I would suggest an article in the afloat mag to attract interest. What do you all think?
Cheers
Phil

Phil,

Gosford sounds great (and convenient for me).

Put me down as a definite starter.

Good evening all,

Just preparing to move my Top Hat 'Alley Oop" from Lake Macquarie to Parsley Bay. I counted at least 6 Top Hats moored at Parsley Bay.

At this stage, I can be counted in for the state title. Looking forward to meeting other Top Hat owners.

Happy sailing.

Great idea and I would be interested. Just need to fix up my spinnaker
rigging and get some experience in flying the spinnaker.

Hi All
I have spoken to Gosford sailing club yacht captain and the club would be happy to hold the regetta. Last year they charged the endeavours $37 per boat for use of the club, provide a starter and marks. In addition all boats must have cat 7 safety, racing insurance and YA membership. Currently looking into the possibility for temporary YA membership for the regetta. I will be getting a copy of the endeavour race instructions to give you all an idea of the concept. The best dates for a regetta would be Jan/Feb but this season's sailing calander is full so we would be looking at 2009. The council has a protected marina area that the endeavous got at a discounted rate so we could get access for the week prior and post to allow boats the be delivered prior to the regetta. Another thought is to form a seperate division and join in on the endeavour regetta. This year they are holding it on lake macquarie. I have not approached them but it is an option. Let me know what you guys think
Cheers
Phil

Phil,

2009 sounds a bit far off. Like the idea of a 2nd division to the Endeavours - but getting to Lake Macquarie could be a problem. No issues with the cost or the Cat7. Eagerly await further news.

Regards,

Mark

Hi All
How about having a social race and raft up to discuss further. We could start at the bottom of Pittwater, around lion island and finish at refuge. Bottle of bundy to the place getters, entry fees = cost of rum divided by number of boats. Only rule is that the winner must share their rum. How about the 16/17 Feb so we can spread the word?
Cheers

Sounds great - count me in. Either or both of those days would suit at
this stage.

A raft up sounds good. Would give me an excuss to sail down to Pittwater and Sydney.

Count me in.

Thanks for the replys. I think at this stage something low key to start looks like a winner. Lets book in the weekend of the 16/17 feb. The race will start at 11am at the South eastern corner of Scotland Island, around lion island and finish in refuge bay. I will provide a bottle of rum to the winner on the condition it is shared :)
Cheers
Phil

Looks good to me. I'll toss in a bottle of scotch under the same
conditions.

Cheers,

Bryce

PS: Phil, what's your secret to making your tophat sail so fast?

Phil,

Was looking forward to the race and raft up. But unfortunately am o'seas on the dates selected. I'll keep my eye on developments in case the date is changed.

The State Title sounds like a great idea - but seems to have died off after discussion. Is anyone still keen?
