Hullo tophatters.
after reading a previous discussion re - the period between mk 1 and mk 2 where 6 or 8 mk 1 's where built by formit at warriewood. going by Phillips dates i must have one of these. I have a 74 date on hull identification . See attachement. Any body else in similar period. I am a little interested in the history etc and not into the which is better stuff as the old girl will do me just fine. " Mari Anne"

Hi Notlongjohn, my Top Hat is from about 1978 give or take a few years and I wish she had had a plate on her like yours giving the year she was made. Makes it easy to know exactly. I don't know why other ones did not have the plates.

I don't think the last digits of the HIN have anything to do with the manufacture date of vessel, think its just a specific number the HIN installer gave that plate.
I could be wrong though.

John S,

As I have said before I think your Mari Anne was Formit's first Top Hat [Mk 1] and she was sold at the 1972 Sydney Boat Show to a syndicate of 6 people who raced her, I think out of of the club where the 2000 Olympic sailing was conducted. Having a senior moment on that name!

Shaun is correct on the waterways label but owners should look on their original engine bearers [for those with inboards] as there may be a Baker boat build number on one of them. Mine have been replace so I have nothing to check
