Water access only living?????

Water access only living?????

Postby SeaLady » Sat Aug 02, 2014 1:12 pm

Hi all,

I am seriously considering a lifestyle change.

Sell my land based house and buy a water access only house where I can have my beloved "Sea Lady" out the front on a swing mooring or tied up to my own deep water private jetty.
Would need to get myself a motor boat commuter - was sticky beaking at the boat show yesterday.

Does anyone already do this and how have you handled the transition?

Diana

p.s. I am self employed and work from home mostly so there is no need to commute daily.

pps Me and my fierce guard dog 8-) will be living there so no on tap muscles to do everyday things.
But I am used to that already.

Hi Di.
I lived on Scotland Island 22 years ago. I still live off shore in Elvina Bay & look out on my Toppy every day, dreaming of heading off in 2 years when I retire & perhaps following in Rob Lovlace's track.
I suggest you rent a place on the island or western foreshores to see if its what you want.
The majority of us have tinnies to get around in but rely on the ferry service or water taxis in really rotten weather.
Electric power is connected to all blocks.
Tank water is backed up on the island by an emergency supply from the mainland.(at a cost).
In the bays we use water dripping off the cliffs as our backup to rainfall.
There is a Scotland Island newsletter online

Drop anchor in the bay & stay at my place. My wife & I are shift workers so you may have the place to yourself to get the feel for the area.
Stop off at Greater Mackeral Beach for a look see also. More exposed to weather but a lovely atmosphere.
Cheers.

Thanks Larry,

I may take you up on that offer soon. :P

Am thinking of Bar Point.

Looking at houses on Friday.

Methinks shopping for waterfront houses could be almost as much fun as shopping for boats.

My Scotland Island neighbours moved to Bar Point. They found it very remote. They attempted to move back to the island a few years later but prices kept them out. We suggested Greater Mackeral & they got one of the last "cheap" houses. Lived there for many years then went to Wagstaff.
I found the water muddy at Bar pt. not as clear as Pittwater & its a long trip from Mooney Mooney in bad weather.
There is 1 house in Elvina. 2 bedrooms. Around $650,000 I think. TRY Tanya Mottl. http://www.sellmycastle.com.au/agent-pr ... ottl/2948/
