WIRE RIGGING

WIRE RIGGING

Postby bornfreee » Thu Feb 20, 2014 4:35 pm

Over the years i have learnt little bits about wire rigging, the riggers have us believe that 316 swagged rigging is the only way to go, but i cant help but think this is more for their benefit than ours.
7x7 stainless wire has been used for years is lots more flexable so does not suffer fatigue anywhere near as much and can be spliced or use Niceropress with so that you can do your own repairs or rigging .
I think there is much more to be said if you want to be self sufficent to looking at the alternitives.
I have just finnished getting quotes on 8mm 316 , 1x19 wire the price went as high as $20 a metre i can now get it at $6.36 a metre for a roll price which is a lot of wire but i do need a fair bit to re rig a ketch and could possibly sell the rest .
Not sure whether to go Sta Locks or the Nicropress opinions would be most welcome

My riggers said 304 stainless is the way to go as it has much better fatigue strength.
